Get started

Quickstart

Go from a new account to a chatbot running on your website in about 15 minutes.

Before you start

You need three things: an email address for your account, the public content your chatbot should know (a website, documents or FAQs), and access to add a script to your website.

Every new organization starts with a 14-day free trial. You can build and test everything during the trial. To embed the chatbot on your live website you need a paid plan, see Team & billing.

Set up your workspace

  1. 01

Create an account at swai.chat and confirm your email address.

  2. 02

    Create an organization

An organization holds your chatbots, team members and billing. Choose Create organization and enter your company name.

  3. 03

    Add a chatbot

On the organization dashboard, choose Add Chatbot and give it a name. You land on the chatbot's Home page with a setup checklist.

Complete the setup checklist

Overview › Home

The checklist on the Home page tracks four steps. They match the Setup section of the sidebar, top to bottom:

  1. 01

    Add knowledge

Import pages from your website, upload PDF, DOCX or TXT files, or add FAQs. Read more in Knowledge Base.

  2. 02

    Add behaviour

Write the system prompt that sets role, tone and rules. Read more in Behaviour.

  3. 03

    Design & tone

Set name, color, avatar, greeting and quick starters for each language. Read more in Design & Tone.

  4. 04

    Add domain

Enter the website where the chatbot will run and copy the embed code. Read more in Website embed.

Test before you go live

Use the Bubble, Floating and Embedded buttons at the top of the dashboard to open a live preview. The preview uses your real knowledge base, so it answers exactly like it will on your website.

  • Ask the ten questions your customers ask most, in their own words.
  • Ask something your content does not cover and check that the chatbot says so instead of guessing.
  • Try every language your website uses.

Weak answer? The fix is almost always in the knowledge base: add a FAQ for that question or import the page that contains the answer.

Go live

Copy the embed code from Setup › Website Embed and paste it just before the closing </body> tag of your website. The code in the dashboard already contains your chatbot ID.

Publish your website, open it in a private browser window and say hello. From now on every conversation shows up under Overview › Conversations.
